Ballet

Whatever their preference, all our students are advised to take ballet lessons, as classical ballet technique is the foundation for all other dance disciplines.

The school uses the syllabus of the Royal Academy of Dance, and examinations are held twice a year when an external examiner visits the school.

An introduction to the classes...

Kindergarten 1

Children start their ballet training in this class aged 3 - 4 years. The emphasis at this stage is on enjoyment, and children learn some basic technique to well-known nursery rhyme music, and also use their imagination in free expressive movement. The classes develop the children's co-ordination, spatial awareness and creativity in a fun environment.

Kindergarten 2

This class follows the Royal Academy of Dance Pre-School Dance Curriculum which uses story themes to develop the children's imagination in a learning environment.

Pre-Primary Ballet

At the age of 6, children in this class are taught more formally and are coached for their first examination, which is taken as a group with instruction from the teacher, in the presence of an examiner. This provides an excellent introduction to the exam system.

Boys Ballet

We offer a class especially designed for boys aged between 7 and 13 years.

Children's Graded Examinations

(Primary, Grade 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5)

Children progress through the grades and are entered for examinations when they have reached the required standard. This is dependent on the individual's ability and regular attendance at classes. Although grades are accessible to all students, a greater level of commitment is necessary from Grade 2 to achieve the required standard.

Vocational Major Examinations

These are for committed and serious students, many of whom are considering a career in dance as a performer or teacher. Only those having the required physique and ability are entered for exams at this level.

Additional classes

We offer additional classes from Grade 1 upwards to those pupils who show enthusiasm, and who would benefit from additional technical training. Once pupils enter Grade 4 upwards we encourage them to attend two classes a week to increase strength, stamina and technique.
